Resolution/Information
StorMagic SvSAN 2-node Witness requirements
- 1:1000 sharable
- 1x vCPU
- 1GB RAM
- 1GB VMDK (2x 512MB)
- 3000ms latency
- 9Kbps per mirror
VMware VSAN 2-node Witness requirements
- 1:64 (maximum sharable)
- 6x vCPUs
- 32GB RAM
- 1.05TB
-- 1x 12GB VMDK
-- 1x 10GB VMDK
-- 3x 350GB VMDK
- <500ms latency
- 1.5Mbps per site
1.5Mbps * 64 sites = 96Mbps from the main datacenter hosting the witness. This location will presumably be hosting other services such as websites, backup etc, and have just lost ~100Mbps to VSAN
9Kbps * 1000 sites = 9Mbps
Using an existing StorMagic gas station use case as an example, they have 2166 node license keys = 1,083 sites @ 2-nodes per site
So working with 1000 sites for a round number
Requirement | StorMagic SvSAN | VMware VSAN |
---|---|---|
Number of Witness | 1 | 15.6 |
vCPUs | 1 | 96 (16x 6) |
Memory | 1 | 512 (16x32) |
Storage | 1GB | 16.8TB (16x 1.05TB) |
Latency | <3000ms | <500ms |
Total Bandwidth | 9Mbps (1000x 9Kbps) | 1.536Mbps (16x 96Mbps) |
