This article is intended for administrators wishing to configure SvHCI virtual networking. This includes virtual switch configuration, uplinks, NIC bonding, interfaces, port groups and VLAN or micro-segmentation configuration.
Configuring SvHCI Virtual Networking
Configure the virtual networking on an SvHCI node after the initial installation, including vSwitches, uplinks, interfaces and virtual machine networking.
Scenario
This document details the network configuration of a StorMagic SvHCI node following the initial installation and first boot, including node configuration, licensing and networking.
This example configures two switched NICs as the front-end management and virtual machine network together with two direct attach (DAC) interfaces for storage synchronization and live migration traffic.
Example SvHCI network design
Default Network Configuration
During installation a default LAN vSwitch is created. This contains the physical NIC selected during installation together with the management interface configured with the IP address specified during setup.
At this stage no virtual machine port groups have been configured.

Configure the LAN vSwitch
The first task is to add a second uplink to the LAN vSwitch to provide front-end network redundancy.
Under the Virtual Switches section, select LAN vSwitch.

The following screenshot shows the default vSwitch configuration before any modifications are made.

Select the Active-backup bond mode and choose the additional physical NIC that will be added as an uplink.

Active-backup bonding sends all network traffic through a single active interface until that interface becomes unavailable.
Since Active-backup bonding is significantly simpler than SLB bonding, it is generally preferred where LACP is not available. It is also the only bonding mode that supports connecting each uplink to a different upstream switch.
After saving the configuration, the LAN vSwitch will display both uplinks.

Configure Guest VM Port Groups
After configuring the LAN vSwitch, create the required virtual machine port groups.
The following example shows a standard LAN port group configuration.

Where VLAN segmentation is required, configure the VLAN ID on the port group.

Configure the Storage vSwitches
In this example, direct attach (DAC) cables are used for storage synchronization and live migration traffic.
Two dedicated virtual switches are configured on separate IP subnets.

Configure SvHCI Interfaces
After the virtual switches have been configured, assign the required network interfaces to the appropriate networks.

Once networking has been configured, the completed configuration for Host 1 should resemble the following example.

Configure the partner node using the same virtual switch, port group and interface names, while assigning the appropriate IP addresses for that node.
