SvHCI Installation – StorMagic Support

This article is intended for administrators wishing to install StorMagic Hyperconverged Infrastructure (SvHCI) onto physical hardware as a two-node cluster with a witness appliance.

Installing SvHCI on Physical Hardware

This guide demonstrates deploying SvHCI as a two-node hyperconverged cluster with a witness using two HPE DL325 Gen11 servers.

Deployment Scenario

This document details the installation of SvHCI as a two-node hyperconverged cluster with a witness using two HPE DL325 Gen11 servers.

Note: The StorMagic SvHCI ISO does not support Secure Boot. Secure Boot should be disabled within the server BIOS before beginning the installation.

Example Hardware Configuration

The following hardware configuration was used during this deployment.

2 × HPE DL325 Gen11 servers
1 × AMD EPYC 9224 (24 Core / 48 Thread @ 2.5 GHz)

AMD EPYC processor

4 × 64 GB memory DIMMs

Memory configuration

Adapter 1 – BCM5719 1Gb 4-port BASE-T OCP adapter used for management and virtual machine traffic.
Adapter 2 – Broadcom P210tep NetXtreme-E Dual-Port 10GBASE-T Ethernet adapter.
DAC cables are used for storage and Live Migration networking.

Boot from the SvHCI Installation ISO

Connect to the server iLO interface and mount the SvHCI installation ISO as virtual media.

Mount the SvHCI ISO

Power on the node.

Power on the server

Select the option to manually choose the boot device.

Select the iLO Virtual CD-ROM containing the mounted SvHCI ISO.

When the GRUB boot menu appears, select Install - Manual.

Complete the SvHCI Installation

Select installation option 1 - HyperConverged Infrastructure Appliance (HCIA) and complete the installation wizard by specifying:

The disk to install the hypervisor operating system onto.
The management network interface.
The management IP address, subnet, VLAN, default gateway, DNS servers and NTP server.

Note: If information is entered incorrectly during the installation, press Ctrl + C to restart the installation wizard.

After the installation completes, press Enter to reboot the node.

Installation complete

If there are issues caused by leftover partitions or the incorrect boot device being selected, the remaining disks can be cleaned using the purge option before rebooting.

Access the SvHCI Management Interface

After the node reboots, the SvHCI console displays the management IP address that can be used to access the web management interface.

If the incorrect management network interface, default gateway or other networking information was configured during installation, these settings can be corrected from the local console.
